Cuttin' the Grass

Here is one of the weirdest, most interesting, and difficult tunes that Josh wrote. It incorporates unusual 3-string slants, which are hard to tune, but at a faster tempo, it's acceptable. Josh recorded this piece several times over his career, the first time with Lester Flatt. The nice version is on his own King of the Dobro album. And it is in the key of Bb!

The tune was written by Earl Scruggs. This is a break that Josh Graves cut on the 1973 Earl Scruggs album, "Dueling Banjos." It is a bit different from the break he took on Flatt and Scruggs' version of the tune. Anyway, give it a try, it's Graves at his best.

Hound Dog Ramble

This is my arrangement of the famous Josh Graves tune. I'm not sure which of his records this one appeared in for the first time. It was popularised by LeRoy Mac on his own album as a double dobro duet. (If you are interested in that one, you can find my rendition here on my channel.)
